SUMMARY:Amado and Karen’s Junkyard Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Albert Einstein stated that “the true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination”. Amado and Karen’s Junkyard Orchestra cultivates this innate ability to explore\, invent and create\, preparing students for a lifetime of critical thinking and problem solving. In the assembly format we compare and contrast the recycled instruments to native instruments\, exploring human resourcefulness and world cultures throughout the ages.\nKansas City musicians Amado Espinoza and Karen Lisondra’s Junkyard Orchestra shows how musical instruments can be made out of practically anything. Whether they’re playing a classical Arabic flute made from a broom or a Bolivian guitar fashioned out of a cookie tin\, Junkyard Orchestra proves that using recycled materials and found objects opens up musical horizons.
